Let's start by thanking the color gods for making gray hair(color) popular. We never thought we'd see the day where clients are actually requesting gray hair color-even if they don't have it naturally.
This poses an important question however: Is it ok to let your gray hair grow in? Is it a trend? If so, how long will it last?
The manufactured gray hair color we are seeing in our culture now is a bold move. Let's be honest, this isn't for the meek. If you're trying to blend in, this move isn't for you. In particular, woman who are blessed to have the title "silver fox" are more likely to be strong, confident, and unapologetic beings. That said, If you are approaching the 75% gray hair mark, it might be time to stop the 4-6wk root touch up. On the flip side of that silver coin, if you are of a particular age bracket and feel it might "age" you, by all means keep scheduling your touch-up's.
There are many ways to make this transition to the silver side. In talks with our clients, we often suggest highlights vs. darker coloring to ease into the transition. A truly skilled colorist will make this a seamless transition. We must note that coloring hair extensions to a desired color is often suggested for less of a commitment.
Trend or not, embrace your natural beauty. Embrace what makes YOU feel beautiful. If that means covering your gray hair-keep covering. After all, a healthy and confident inner-self will supersede trends any day.
